HCRP Building

Settlement Corrected Saving Owner $250k

The HCRP building was originally constructed as a construction field office and was originally considered temporary when constructed 15 years ago.  Over time, significant settlement had occurred under the first and second column bays.  The roof-line along the last bay had sagged over 5 inches, the interior floor slab had a noticeable slope and interior walls had deflected – all resulting in a dysfunctional structure.

Obsidian’s Principals developed an investigation program and discovered approximately 20 feet of poorly compacted fill under the building.  We were able to design a compaction grouting repair which saved the facility approximately $250,000 over the cost of a new building.

This type of success demonstrates our ability to engineer creative solutions to building problems and develop cost saving recommendations.
